Cottesloe, notorious for its salty, picturesque beaches and astoundingly good coffee, but there’s more than meets the eye in this flash little ‘burb. Napoleon Street is one of Cottesloe’s hidden gems. Only on Napoleon street will you find women, men and their dogs sporting their best active wear, drinking lattes like they’re going out of fashion and perusing the many boutiques along the strip. So if it sounds like your kind of scene or you’re just itching to check it out then you’re in luck because below is your ultimate guide to a day out in Napoleon Street.
Kickstart your day the Cottesloe way with breakfast at Vans. This café sits high and mighty at the end of Napoleon Street, and it serves up some of the best breakfast around. If you manage to pass up on the buttermilk pancakes with whipped maple butter, I recommend you go for the hot potato cake with salmon and a soft poached egg. Although the free range scrambled eggs with aged cheddar are almost always a winner. And the best part? Breakfast runs until 11:30 so if you hit the snooze button you won’t miss out.
Now that you fed your rumbling stomach, take a hike a few doors down and you’ll find Motion Fitness. Before you reach for your car keys at the thought of burpees take a breath. Motion Fitness is (thankfully) not a gym or Pilates studio, they’ve just got a bunch of cool and comfortable active wear to make you look like you actually work out. Think labels like Pilot Athletic, The Upside, Jaggad, Nike and more.
Gym gear sorted. Next stop, Boheme Luxe. If boho style clothing isn’t really your thing, it’s about to be. From the minute you walk into Boheme you get a sense of calm (just not from your wallet). The subtle smell of burning candles is enough to turn anyone into a yogi. You’ll find some really cool labels you’ve probably never heard of, as well as some you’re more familiar with – Mother, Missoni, Sundry and more. And if the massive selection of bathers isn’t doing it for you, check out their jewels. Rings by Georgia Jaggar and necklaces from Shashi, there’s so much goodness in one tiny store.
By now it’s probably time for a pick me up – for you and your purse. Grab a coffee from the new kids on the block at Up Town. The guys here used to be behind Velvet Espresso, so that’s an immediate red flag for seriously good coffee. Once you’ve warmed your soul with caffeine, head over to Baker Street Cottesloe and prepare yourself. This bakery is every bread lovers dream come true. There’s cakes, tarts, gourmet sandwiches, pastries aplenty and the best selection of bread (you may need to change into those stretchy pants). Once you’ve tried and tested half the bakery, end your day at Natures Harvest, where you will find nothing but guilt free goodness. From Kombucha to granola and maple butter popcorn, you’ll find all things vegan and healthy here.
Before you get back to reality, make sure you stop by Love Story and admire the amazing pieces from Isabel Marant, Balmain, Proenza Schouler and more.
